Maine State Ballet Company Auditions
As a respected regional ballet company, we support talented dancers, though our resources for full-time positions are limited. Most of our company dancers are older high school through university-age students who receive a modest stipend for their contributions during the season. We don't offer traditional contracts, per se. Adult company members, depending on their rank, receive a total of between $2,000 and $4,000/annually (paid per performance - about 30 shows/year - and this includes a stipend for dance accessories/pointe shoes). Many rely on family support or part-time work to cover living expenses (which can be high in Maine), and some are also hired to teach dance with us to supplement their income. Please do not send audition materials unless you understand our pay structure.
We are open to considering other dancers, especially those who dance the Balanchine-style. If you are in the area you may join us for a class, as we prefer to see potential dancers in person to introduce ourselves, get to know you, and see your dancing. You can also tour the facility and meet other company dancers this way. Please contact us at info@mainestateballet.org to schedule a time to take a class with us. Additionally, if you haven’t already, please share any video links showcasing your dancing and a current resume for our consideration.
We appreciate your interest and wish you the very best in your pursuit of a career in dance.
